Social Waves

A small spin-off of Last.fm Extra Stats that first used to graph your MSN Messenger chat history and after it died I changed it to graph your Facebook chat history. It never got popular due to obvious usability problems, but it still works.

Social Waves is a free program that lets you track the history of your conversations in Facebook chat in a very cool and informative way.

Requirements:

• Windows.
• Backup file of your Facebook data (see below).
• It doesn't need installation! Just unzip and run! 

This software reads the Facebook backup file only for creating your Social Wave. It does not read, analyse or send the actual text of your conversations. It only counts how many messages you have sent and received. If you still don't trust it, you can block it in your firewall, it doesn't need internet connection to work.

How to get the Facebook Backup File

Social Waves needs the info of how many times you talk with each of your friends in order to make your graph (it only counts the total of messages per day, it doesn't read, analyse or send them). The best way of getting this info is using the backup file that you can download from facebook. The first time you open this app you will be asked for this file. Follow this steps to get yours:

• Visit https://www.facebook.com/settings?tab=your_facebook_information and request a copy of your facebook info. 
• Check your email and you will see that you got a Facebook email. They tell you that your file is in progress. 
• Wait a couple of minutes (it shouldn't last more than 5 minutes). You will get another email where they give you a link to download it.
• Save this file in your computer and point Social Waves to it when requested.
